Day 7

Day 7

I get up at 7am and decide to head to the Ruby Slipper cafe, which has won some best Restaurant awards. I go with their signature Banana Foster French toast, as I've been eating a lot of eggs and omelettes on this trip and I've been craving some pancakes and French toast. It seems to take forever for my food to arrive, having been placed at the bar and seeing people on my left and right ordering after me, eating, and leaving. I wonder if they were catching the pigs out in the Bayou for the bacon and sausage in the moment to fill out my order. The French toast is tasty but wish it didn't come drenched in syrup.

For lunch Kevin, being a food aficionado, suggests a place called Acme oyster house. At 3pm there is a line for a table and when we sit, we all order the jambalaya, as Kevin says it's famous for it. We order the gumbo soup as well. Both turned out delicious. I found a new kind of Tabasco, buffalo style, which I tried with my gumbo soup. It was ok I guess (translation: kinda sucked).

It's funny what people use as card/chip protector/good luck charm and this guy had Space Ghost as his. After awhile, we could eliminate good luck charm as his role.

Poker: 1/3 straddled, 3 limp for $6, I go $30 w AQo Sb, 2 calls to button, he shoves $52 total, I can't reraise to iso (he has A8o) and we all call to 733ddx flop. Both opponents look to have around $200-250, I shove, first guy tank calls for $290 and gets there w/ J8dd. Even though he won the pot, he makes a bad mathematical call vs my range, as he runs into the bottom of my range (worst hand I could have given how the hand played out). I'll be taking the same line (action) with medium to big pocket pairs (88-AA, although I won't shove actually, but rather milk my opponents, but for all intents and purposes, in his mind he thinks I have those hands) flush draws that are usually bigger, and the rest of my range which are always JT+. In the long run, he makes a negative expected value (-ev) call, and I come out ahead.

Recap: I end up playing 4 different sessions, stakes from $1/$3 to $5/$10, and book wins and losses around $300 each session and come out ahead $350 for the day. After about a week, I'm nearing $10k in profits for the trip. That may change tomorrow as I play the Wsop circuit main event, which has a buyin of $1675, where it's likely I'll bust (since only 10% of entrants make a profit).
