Day 4

Day 4

The first night in my room, the thermometer read 67, 67! Sorry but that's freezing! I like it warm, somewhere between 72-75. So everyday I've been raising it 1 degree on the thermometer so it's a slow gradual temperature change that I'm hoping my roommates don't notice until it hits 72 (2 more days!).

I'm hungry and decide to eat somewhere outside of the hotel and casino. I find a little cafe/dive called Daisy Dukes. It really doesn't get more southern than. It's off on some seedy side street that looks straight out of a movie (any Batman movie). I order the seafood gumbo. It was alright. As I'm sitting here on the table eating, I decide now is as good as any to do my devotional...

Daily Devotional

It's 11:30pm so I'm barely squeezing in my daily devotional for May 15. Better late than never! Instead of reading the verse of the day or Swipe Right, I decide to reflect on the Great Commission. Reason: I was checking Facebook first and came across a ChurchLeaders article about discipleship by Francis Chan. An excerpt....

Discipleship does take courage, and finding that courage will not be achieved by looking inward, but it can certainly be found by looking outward. Outwardly, we look to the finished work of Christ on our behalf as we pray for God to provide the needed courage to engage in disciplemaking. Courage also comes easier when we realize that God is actually with us in the discipleship process; his children are never isolated from the vine that is providing the needed fuel to engage with other people.

The Great Commission:

“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28:18-20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I mentioned in my last blog how I can do a better job of talking about God and Jesus on the tables. Approach and delivery is very important though. As Francis Chan said though, I gotta remember God is always with me through the discipleship process and when spreading the good news with others. Sometimes I forget God is with me.

I definitely was hoping he was with me when I walked to Daisy Dukes with a large wad of cash in my pockets after 11pm!

Missing these two!

Poker: 1 limp, I raise to $40 with A9ss, 3 calls to 665r flop, chk chk, guy behind me bets $55 into $160, folds to me, I think about calling, he picks up a card and shows me, it's a 5, so I call because I doubt he shows me trips or a full house, turn 4, chk chk, riv K, I bet $325, he folds quickly. They were right, they're friendlier down here.

Hey, Martin Dooley and Hemma are in the game with me!

Poker: 1 limp, I raise to $35 with 45hh Ep, mp and limper call to QJ5hhx chk chk last guy bets $85, I call, turn 7h giving me a flush, I bet $160, he calls, river is Jx, I check call $275 and lose to QJ.

Game died and Two Hats asks if I want to grab breakfast with him, so we go to Mother's but it's closed. He mentions a 24hr place, Daisy Dukes. Yeah, I might've gone there once. We go there (again) and have the early bird special (2 eggs, 1 meat, hash browns or grits for $4.99). Two Hats is a personable character w/ a good heart...he just needs confidence with women. He micromanages playing poker successfully to a tee. He game selects hard (choosing only the best games to play in) and only plays when he's 100% or close to it mentally. The running joke is that if Two Hats is in the game, it's a very good game. He manages his money well from what I know and actually is a pretty successful poker player in Vegas (and that's actually rare). He's also an avid student of the game (he knew me before I met him a couple of years ago). He's a big fan of Drew's vlogs as are his buddies and roommates, saying they've watched them all. I would point to him on a lot of things on how to go about it in poker. Hats off to Two Hats (Branden).

Recap: It was a short day with a late start. My goal is to sleep soon (7:30am currently) and wake up around noon or a little after to get on a better schedule. Two Hats mentioned the games are the worst yesterday and today and will get better after, since the main event (and guys like Joe) are coming in to town. So there's no pressing need to log in hrs today. Anyway, I win $400 on the night, and lost the 45hh hand at the end, otherwise it would've been another 4 figure win. That's poker, one long game. At some point I want to take a riverboat cruise along the Mississippi. I'll have to buy some Dramamine, because the last ship I was on, well, it sucked on my birthday aboard it when I got seasick all day (although the entire trip was a blast).
